The Kite Runner (Persian: کاغذپران باز - Kāğazparān Bāz) is a 2007 Academy Award-nominated movie directed by Marc Forster.
Using Afghanistan as its main setting, this movie tells about the relationship between two boys which differentiate by two different caste. It tells the story of Amir, a well-to-do boy from the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul, who is haunted by the guilt of betraying his childhood friend Hassan, the son of his father's Hazara servant.
As I remembered, the other setting is in San Fransisco, and Pakistan. Much of the film's dialogue is in Dari Persian (with English subtitles) and English.
The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of the monarchy in Afghanistan through the Soviet invasion, the mass exodus of refugees to Pakistan and the United States, and the Taliban regime. And the Afghan government has banned the movie because of the rape scene and the ethnic tensions that the film highlights.
According to the writer, this story was made to give different perspective in seeing the situation in Afghanistan.
A good movie. It can show you the condition there at that time, something that difficult for me to imagine only by reading the novel.
But i like the novel better :D
